A bag of swimsuitsa bag of cameras

They grew side by side the village hums
the sea tells us to visit to play the
The sea watches us Closeup and far Beautiful are the moments laughter

Urban White
One of the great fashion magazines of the 90's was Mirabella under the iconic creative direction of Sam Shahid with fashion director Polly Hamilton. Polly had such innate taste and was very giving to work with. We created some wonderful stories for Mirabella and for The Fashion of the Times. For this story, Polly chose the model Lorraine Pascale to be in all white fashion. My objective was to pair beautiful architectural locations with elements of strong graphic lines, with Lorraine being equal to the power of the space. The choice of the potent yellow color of the night light and the use of black and white imagery created an interesting juxtaposition.

Street Life
A fashion story of two kids, a young couple hanging around the NYC streets. I call Women Management and tell Jennifer I am looking for a special girl who can project like an actress. "I have this girl that just came into town, she is really young and tiny but there is something about her that I think is really right for you." So I hightail it to the agency and look at the girl’s xeroxed model card, her name was Kate Moss. Yeah, I say. I can see that, I like her, book her. Kate had something innate and magical. It was like she had another life before, perhaps as one of the great actresses of the French films during the 60's.

Spy Story
Luca Cardelli was the stylist at Uomo Harper's Bazaar that I worked with and this is a tribute to him since he is now gone. We would come up with story ideas and drive for hours to scout for the right locations, cast for days and it always seemed to produce something magical. Years later the “Institute" image from this this story was in a group show at The Serge Sorroko gallery in Soho, and a collector loved the image and asked me about my use of light. "We had no budget and we had no money to pay for all of what we needed, like actual lights. We were shooting in the legendary nightclub "Hollywood", in Milan, and it was dark inside, but they had these lamps around, with 200W bulbs, so I had my assistant take off the shades and use them to light the picture. The collector he bought the picture.

The Boat Ride
We saw these rocks in the distance climbing out of the sea Asking you questions You
knew the answers but didn't say out loud so the lapping of the water provided safe havens of thoughtlessness restlessness while on
the journey again
To see again the long lost love
That you Forever remember remembering the loss of the lost love Remembering the other as the other would be There are too many that would be
There to See Stare
not touch It was all familiar the faces the gestures the warmth of the rock the horizontal line familiar known unknown maybe
I am dreaming
There was one you walked to

Le Port
French Glamour, Marie Sophie, Marseille, Luca incredible styling from the fashion to the makeup and hair. The creative direction, Thomas Lenthal with his impeccable sense of type, design and layout. I have always seen grids in my head when shooting and when I lived in Paris I would show the creative directors my ideas for the grids and many times they would incorporate them. I would run to the xerox shop in the 9th arrondissement by my apartment and spend hours enlarging, shrinking, toning in colors, etc... to then cut and paste until I got it right in my mind. Then, everything was so tactile.
