April 19, 2011   Moments in Neorealism
The theater the street street language stone pavement makes sounds of moans and groans
The years of pounding
The cracks are many
making gestures stir
Opposites pulsate the air of Sicily Robert Frank Pablo Neruda Picasso Williams messengers of code swirl in my head showing the underside belly of choice
Lollipops charged faces unspoken thought embraces I remember every movement Mr. Antonioni
Winds howl along the gray sea that day lifting the black delicate lace dress We collectively walk along alone Standing still stop
we walk along together hanging onto we walk we sit hanging onto we lay hanging onto hanging onto you and me we hang on
and on and on and alone we
We go go go go go
to relations repeating what we already know
Filled with contradictions that run to the ground, faces that are so aggressive body language that frightens you but pulls you in. There is a bohemian feeling for me when I get there it is like Johan and I could just stay and live there forever, we would walk for hours take our vespas around eat drink cook photograph paint and just be. Sicily is my place from the streets of Palermo to the alley ways of Taormina to the small piazzas that line Corleone. Every one turns and stares as you enter, the stranger is here.

Photographed in FiumeFreddo, Mazara del Vallo, Mondello, Palermo and Taormina, Sicily

May 28, 2011   Stains of Purple
Sirens of Tuscany whisper whisper a low sensual Song
in the early days of spring when the vines are soft buttery
hovering over the soil Long dark gray hair
I follow the tattered piecemeal of cords I follow well worn boots
dirt meshed into the sole I follow
Disappearing as they take me by hand through muddy hills lined faces
fathers clothes stains of purple
burgundy footprints of where one has been
The two men of Trinoro Vineyards the scientist the artist
merge producing a life that one is fortunate to witness
Passion commitment work Love friendship drunken abandon
wisdom to unlock that Great door
digging for experience you see
Purity

Faces and attitudes, the spirit, the life of Andrea and Gelasio, Italian wine masters of the southern region of Tuscany. For Centurion, American Express's black card magazine. We roamed together across their great land working cinematically, naturally as if they and I had told this story, their story, once before.

Client: Centurion, American Express Publishing
Subjects: Andrea Franchetti & Count Gelasio Gaetani d'Aragona Lovatelli
Location: Trinoro Vineyards, Southern Tuscany, Val d'Orcia Region, Italy

April 18, 2011   Exhibit Milano

A photography group exhibit in Milan this past fall organized by Alessandro Calascibetta the fashion director and vice president of Rizzoli Milan Publishing, this show was dedicated to mens fashion. Alessandro and I worked on many fashion stories in Milan in the 1990's and I have a very dear place for him in my heart. We reconnected several years back and are also shooting with the great Carlo Ortenzi, his fashion editor. Carlo and I metaphorically always go on a road trip, we choose where we want to go, he adds this road I add another, we revisit but we always know we are going in the same direction.
